Artist in Residence Chelsea: Call for Proposals

The Artist in Residence program is a joint project between the Chelsea Center for the Arts (CCA), Chelsea River Gallery and the Chelsea District Library (CDL). The purpose of the program is to provide the community with artistic and educational opportunities reflecting multiple disciplines in the arts; enrich the community through interaction with artists and artwork they would not otherwise experience; encourage new audiences’ participation in the arts; support artists who will act as ambassadors for partner organizations in the community.

Position Description

In addition to instructional and consultative activities, the Artist-in-Residence enriches the local arts scene by his or her presence and offers workshops and other programming events. Each year, representatives of CCA, CDL and the Chelsea River Gallery select an artist on the basis of their merits and ability to bring interesting, engaging programming to the community. This year’s theme is screen arts, and will revolve around production and appreciation of the medium. This is a paid position, salary and budget commensurate with experience.

The primary objective is to produce programming, but other innovative and interdisciplinary concepts are also encouraged. The program provides support to artists for their presentations and acts as a catalyst for other community partnerships and spin-off programming. The artist will perform outreach within the community on behalf of the partner organizations and will also bring the benefits of their own network contacts to our community. Artists should expect to commit an estimated 12-16 hours on average per month to their residency duties.
